Initial LBCs
The licensed companies that operated in 1992/3 were:
- PBC [then Produce Buying Company Limited]
- Ghana Co-Operative Marketing Association
- Cashew & Species Products Ltd.
- Universal Crop Protection Ltd.
Then, in 1993/4, the number of LBCs increased to:
- PBC
- Ghana Co-Operative Marketing Association
- Cashew & Species Products Ltd.
- Universal Crop Protection Ltd.
- Kuapa Kokoo Ltd.
- Adwumapa Buyers Ltd.
- Geomco Services Ltd.
Expectations of LBCs
- Raise funds from domestic financial market to purchase cocoa from farmers.
- Present the purchased cocoa for Quality Control Company [QCC] to grade and seal.
- Evacuate graded and sealed cocoa to designated points for Cocoa Marketing Company [CMC] to take over.
- CMC receives all cocoa purchased and delivered by the LBCs at three Take Over Centres (Tema, Takoradi and Kaase).
- Cocoa Taken-Over Receipts [CTORs] are issued at the take-over centres to LBCs to cover cocoa delivered to CMC.
- LBCs in turn submit the CTO Receipts to CMC Accounts and COCOBOD Head Office Produce Finance for payment.
- The amount paid to LBCs covers the producer price, buyers’ margin and evacuation cost.
